The Leicester Mercury reports on Aldi's announcement to set up a distribution centre at Wilson Bowden's Sawley Crossroads development, bringing hundreds of jobs to the area.
Located off the A50, it goes on to mention tje proposal put forward to create a 600,000 sq ft distribution centre. If given the go ahead, work on the proposed centre will begin next year and it should be operational in 2017.
The new warehouse will allow Aldi to feed its growing network as it aims to double its store numbers to 1,000 over the next eight years.
An Aldi spokesman said: "This is major investment for Aldi. The distribution requirements of the business needs to keep pace with the growth of our retail outlets, and we therefore have an urgent need to deliver a new centre to serve our Midlands region.
"The site at Sawley is ideally placed to do this. We have been in talks with North West Leicestershire District Council to ensure that the scheme is deliverable, and we are hopeful that planning will be approved and we can be on-site during 2015."
